UPP achieve BREEAM “excellent” sustainability certification for student accommodation development in Exeter

| 04.03.2025 | 2 minutes read |

UPP has achieved “excellent” sustainability certification for the East Park student accommodation complex, on the University of Exeter’s Streatham campus.

BREEAM is the most widely used green building certification in the United Kingdom and Europe. Achieving “excellent” certification puts UPP’s East Park development in the top 10% of UK new non-domestic buildings, highlighting it as an example of best practice in modern building development.

The East Park development, which opened in 2021, is a village-like campus, home to almost 1,200 University of Exeter students.

The BREEAM assessment looks at a range of factors that make up how sustainable a building construction is, including the materials used and how water, waste and energy are managed on site.

UPP worked with consultant partners Carbon.Climate.Certified to manage the BREEAM certification process.

The news comes as UPP works towards achieving financial close on a brand-new development at the University of Exeter adjoining East Park, the Clydesdale & Birks Residential Project. Meanwhile UPP is preferred bidder to develop a new accommodation project with Durham University, including the development of a brand-new college.

Adam Tyson, UPP’s Executive Director of Construction and Capital Programmes said:

“We are delighted to have achieved “excellent” BREEAM certification at Exeter East Park – it is testament to a lot of hard work through the design, build and management of this leading accommodation complex.”
