UPP has been awarded the prestigious RoSPA Gold Award for the ninth consecutive year, recognising our continued commitment to high standards of health and safety across our operations.
In addition, UPP was commended in the Facilities Management Sector Award category for health and safety performance in 2025.
The internationally recognised RoSPA Awards celebrate organisations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, residents, contractors and the wider public.
Every day, UPP supports over 35,000 students on their journey through higher education, working with our university partners to create an outstanding student experience. The award reflects the collective efforts of teams across the business and recognises UPP’s continued investment in safety leadership, workforce engagement, training and continuous improvement.
Throughout 2025, UPP continued to strengthen its Health and Safety programme through initiatives including:
- Improved near miss reporting and awareness campaigns
- Regular safety assurance checks and audits
- Ongoing investment in staff training and skills
- Collaboration with university partners on best practice and operational safety
A key focus in 2025 was the launch of UPP’s “Near Miss November” campaign, designed to encourage proactive reporting and strengthen safety awareness across all teams. The initiative led to a significant increase in near miss reporting and helped reinforce a culture where colleagues at every level play an active role in identifying and managing risk.
UPP also continued to maintain its ISO 45001 accredited health and safety management system and recorded more than 6,800 near misses in 2025, demonstrating strong workforce engagement and proactive hazard identification across the business.
Craig Cole, Head of Health & Safety at UPP:
“Achieving RoSPA Gold for the ninth year in a row is a fantastic achievement that reflects the commitment shown by colleagues across the business every day.
Health and Safety are fundamental to how we operate, and this recognition demonstrates the importance of collaboration, continuous improvement and creating environments where both our teams and students can feel safe and supported.”
The RoSPA Awards are sponsored by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), a leading global organisation providing internationally recognised health, safety and environmental qualifications that help raise competence across workplaces worldwide.
